Poker hands and their ranks are crucial in this card game. Types of hands in poker are classified into four categories, namely: i) traditional high poker, ii) ace to five lowball, iii) deuce to seven lowball, and iv) Bagudi.

 

1) Traditional High Poker

Under this category five cards are taken at a time. These five cards could have certain similarities which determine their ranks.

Straight Flush - Here five cards of same suit are in sequence. The best combination of straight flush are ten, jack, queen, king, and ace of the same suit.

Flush – These five cards are of the same suit.

Four of a kind –  In this case, four same ranked cards are considered, with the fifth one as a ‘kicker’.

Three of a kind – Here, three same ranked cards are taken , with the remaining two unrelated in any way.

Full House – This is a combination of three same ranked cards, and two remaining cards of another rank. 

Straight –In this combination five cards are in sequence, and could of different suits.

Two Pair – This is a combination of two pairs of matched ranked cards. The ranks of these two pairs could be different. One card remains as a side card.

One pair – Out of five cards, only two are of the same rank, with the remaining three unrelated.

High card –  Any combination that fails to qualify any of the aforesaid combinations.

2) Ace to Five Lowball

The combinations under this category include Wheel of Five Low, Six Low, Seven Low and Eight Low.

3) Deuce to Seven Lowball

Under this category combinations include: Seven Low, Eight Low, Nine Low, and Ten Low.

4) Badugi

Badugi is a hand of four cards that are unpaired. 3-card hand, 2-card hand, and 1-card hand are the different hand options.
